Becky Tierney was heartbroken to learn that her late son Triston would not be there to witness the important day as she prepared to walk down the aisle. So on the wedding day in Paradise, Alaska, I reserved an empty seat for him in the ceremony.

What Becky didn’t expect at her wedding was an unexpected guest who burst into tears midway through the ceremony.

When it came to starting the day, Becky said, “Everything was normal.” She had no idea of the huge surprise that was emerging behind her. I explained, “I was walking down the aisle with my dad and he handed me over to Kelly.” “It was all very normal.”

Becky’s groom Kelly suddenly interrupts the party after walking down the aisle. Becky told Mirror: “He starts walking down the aisle, toward the crowd.” I asked, “What are you doing?” “Now we’re getting married!”

Kelly took the lead and spoke to the entire audience about Becky’s late son Triston. The groom added that they had reserved a seat for Triston, who died in 2015 at the age of 19.

Triston was an organ donor, according to Kelly, and his organs saved the lives of five different people. He then revealed that a receiver was attending the event and his heart was pounding in Triston’s chest.

Becky was surprised when she heard those words.

“I just lost it at that point,” she explained. “I would have fallen to the floor if my brother-in-law hadn’t held my hand.” Jacob Kilby, the special guest, then approached Becky and introduced himself for the first time.

Becky and Jacob exchanged messages and spoke on the phone on Becky’s birthday that year before the wedding. But it wasn’t until their wedding that they finally met face to face and Becky could still hear her son’s heart beating wildly.

“It was the best time of my life,” Becky recalls. “I put my arms around him and told him it was the best gift I’ve ever received.”

Speaking of hearing her son’s heartbeat, Becky commented, “It was wonderful. Jacob asked if I wanted to hear Triston’s heart. His heart was, and it was beating wildly. I exclaimed, ‘This is unbelievable, this is Tristons heart.'” It was a moving experience.”

Becky has been able to spend more time with Jacob after meeting him at her wedding to Kelly in 2017. Her son’s heart saved Jacob’s life. Becky commented at the time, “I had no reason to expect him to be at my wedding.” “There was a lot of healing that week.”

Becky, a mother of three named Chase, Maddie and Paige, is grateful for the chance to meet the recipient of her son’s heart. “Our only son has passed away,” she explained. “He saved five lives and I want to get to know them all.”

Becky has just one piece of advice for anyone considering organ donation: “Just do it…it saves lives and changes lives.”
