Statue of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna on the second anniversary of the fatal plane crash

Two years ago, on January 26, 2020, 41-year-old Kobe Bryant boarded a helicopter with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna. They traveled from Orange County, California to Thousand Oaks, but never reached their destination. Due to poor visibility due to fog, the helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California. There were no survivors.

Not many fans visited the crash site, but a sculptor wanted to give them a reason to stop. Sculptor Dan Medina created a sculpture in honor of Kobe and Gigi. The bronze statue, which weighs 160 pounds, shows Kobe dressed as Lakers. He has his arm around his daughter Gigi who is looking up at him. Gigi is also wearing a basketball uniform and holding a basketball. On the base is a text that reads “Heroes come and go, but legends are forever”.

Exactly two years after the fatal accident, Medina stowed the statue he had made in honor of Kobe and Gigi in a carriage and dragged it alone to the scene of the accident. Watch the video below to see this image for yourself and learn more about it.

As reported in the video, on the second anniversary of the helicopter crash, the statue was only present at the crash site for one day. City brought it there on a cart in the morning and planned to pick it up later that evening.
If you remember, Kobe and Gigi were not the only two people who lost their lives in this fatal accident. There were a total of 9 people on board the helicopter and a city made sure they were all remembered. On the base, he wrote all nine names.
Medina hopes that one day he will be able to erect a permanent statue on the site of the crash. He also wants the permanent image to be larger than the temporary. Wants to be life size.
