After her birth, her little girl was at the peak of her happiness and she felt like nothing could stop her. Until one day he had a numb leg and woke up in the hospital. Her only wish was to come every day… Find out who was supposed to come and what happened below
Holly Gerlach is a 26 year old mother from Canada. She’s wanted a child since she was younger and in 2018 her ardent wish was granted. The birth was completely normal and a little girl named Casey was born.
The little girl was born perfectly healthy but what happened to her mother in the coming weeks is really a tragedy.
Two weeks after her birth, Holly began to feel very sick, had a sore throat, and her legs were numb very often. She decided to go to the hospital for a routine checkup. After examinations, the doctors realized that something was wrong, the new mother was showing signs of paralysis from the neck down.
She was immediately hospitalized in Intensive Care and in the meantime she was diagnosed, a very rare disease that over time leads to paralysis of the hands and feet called Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
After much research, in the case of Holly, the birth triggered this disease.
A few very difficult weeks followed for her, but she had something to fight for: her daughter. Although she was getting more and more tired and could barely speak, she kept her energy to hold her daughter in her arms every day because that was her only wish.
The biggest pain was not that she was paralyzed but that she would not be able to take care of her daughter.
For two weeks she was connected to a device that helped her breathe but suddenly she began to breathe on her own.
The miracles were chained and Holly managed to get out of the Intensive Care Unit in 70 days.
On the 12th day, Holly returned home supported by only one cadre, most of whom regained their positions.
She had to relearn how to walk, how to write, how to eat, but she is very happy that she escaped and that she can finally be with her much-loved daughter Casey.
