Chip Gaines has learned the value of perspective after becoming an overnight success on the popular show “Fixer Upper.”
Gaines, whose most recent book, “No Pain, No Gaines,” is presently available, remembered the precise second he recognized that fame had become too much for him to handle.
It was a bit of a sad moment when I realized that fame had virtually taken over and consumed my entire existence.
Gaines was present when the incident in question occurred at a flea market that his wife Joanna and their family frequently visited.

Duke, the youngest son in the family, once went away, but Gaines was still about 10 yards in front of him. But as soon as he got there, people flocked around to greet him.
It was evident that we had reached the stage in our careers where people could recognize us, so the experience had become somewhat normal for us. I somehow lost touch with Duke at that very moment though.

And so, he continued, “I was basically on my way to kind of suck him up and bring him back into a secure area, and at about that same second, I was encircled by this bunch of individuals,” adding that the fans were enquiring about his wife, squeezing his cheeks once, and requesting to take pictures.
Gaines, who is now married to Joanna and has five children, claimed that the event altered him and made him more aware of how he should live.
It was a disconcerting chain of events because, he said, “I realized at that point that I wasn’t able to communicate accurately that I was actually a desperate father trying to get my son into a safe place, but at the same time kind of trying to resonate with these people and trying to not be rude and all the things that we struggle with in a typical situation.”

The co-founder of Magnolia, who is 46 years old, claimed it also gave him a jolt and made him realize that fame had begun to rob him of his individuality.
But it was a bit of a shock to me, and I would honestly say that it sent me into a downward spiral where my identity as the protagonist of this well-known story really eclipsed my identity as a father and as a person, he continued.
And it sort of forced me to think about whether or not all of this was worthwhile when I had to make some of the big life decisions that come up in these circumstances.
Fans continue to appreciate Chip and Joanna Gaines, even from a distance. After “Fixer Upper’s” immensely popular five-season run on HGTV came to an end in 2018, their show “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home” returned to television in January on Discovery+.
