In a sleepy corner of Costa Rica you can find a very unusual but extraordinary animal sanctuary. Run by Judy Avey-Arroyo for the past 20 years, this is the only sanctuary in the world devoted to saving orphaned and injured sloths. Over 160 sloths call the animal sanctuary home and some have even become an internet sensation!

Meet The Sloths is a show on Animal Planet that follows a year in the life of the slow-moving residents at this Costa Rican Sloth Sanctuary. In this video, we meet the twins. One boy and one girl, they need special care and attention and have to partake in a very unusual spa ritual.

Covered in bugs and bacteria, the twins require a special treatment where their fur is shaved and a concoction of sulfur and lard coats their skin until they heal. I would love to take one of these adorable creatures home, but now I see sloths are very difficult to care for and do not make good pets. I’ll just keep watching adorable videos like this one instead!
