This is what “civilization” looks like after only 30 years without people
Half a century ago Hatwan was an overcrowded fishing village on a Chinese island. However, in the 1990s, all fishermen who could not compete with the companies in the fishing industry had to return to the mainland.
After only 30 years, the village almost disappeared under a thick green blanket.
Village Island was home to around 2,000 residents at its peak, living in around 500 houses.
Now many of these houses have collapsed walls, collapsed roofs or buried under thick blackberries and creepers, and climbed ivy.
The dirt roads that once connected houses are completely invisible.
