Keris Riebel, a 22-year-old newlywed who worked at a Dollar Tree store in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, was brutally murdered by a man wielding a machete.

Riebel was declared dead when police officers and an ambulance arrived at the site.

The murderer was found and taken into custody in the 100 block of South Fifth Street, where he was sitting in a parked car close to the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office. He was eventually identified as 27-year-old Bethel Bekele. He was afterwards accused of murder.

Furthermore, it is unknown if the victim and the killer were previously acquainted or if she was simply unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The young woman who had lately wed the love of her life is mourned by the entire neighbourhood.
“It’s terrible to see something like this in Upper Sandusky, because it’s such a wonderful place,” one of the locals said.

The victim’s aunt launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with the funeral costs during these tough times for the family and Riebel’s husband, who has taken some time off work to grieve.

With a degree in human resources, Riebel had a lot of ideas. She and her husband had just begun their lives together and were eager to have a pet and build a family, but all of that was abruptly ripped from them.

Wynford Local Schools, from which Riebel graduated in 2019, characterised her as having a “wonderful spirit with a faith-filled heart.” She exuded happiness and excitement and always wore a lovely smile. Definitely unique.

“The death of such a brilliant and promising young woman is extremely tragic, and our hearts go out to her husband, family, and loved ones during this difficult time,” the GoFundMe reads.

Peace be with you, lovely spirit. We hope that justice will be done and that the murderer will spend many years in prison.
