July 4th is one of the biggest holidays in America, including fireworks and parades across the United States.

But while most Americans are excitedly planning a day of fun and celebration, actor Liam Neeson feels only the pain of losing his ex-wife, partner and best friend.

July 3 is the wedding anniversary of Liam and his wife, Natasha Richardson.

Long before a tragic accident ended a 16-year marriage, Natasha Richardson and Liam Neeson shared that love that inspired the Hollywood movies and productions in which they starred.

Liam Neeson will never forget the good times he spent with his wife.

The couple’s story began in 1993 when the two starred in a Broadway production of “Anna Christie.”

Natasha was 29 at the time and was married to producer Robert Fox. However, this was not enough to curb the blossoming love affair between her and Liam.

The chemistry between them was obvious to everyone who knew them. Fortunately for Liam, who was 40 at the time, the marriage between Natasha and Robert was coming to an end.

When Natasha celebrated her 30th birthday, Liam decided to send her a view from filming for Schindler’s List.

“You want to catch up with me. With much love, Oskar ”(Liam played Oskar Schindler in this film).

But Natasha did not find the message as romantic as the sender would have liked. Instead, she decided it was time to clear things up.

She replied, “It’s like a letter from a friend. What is our relationship? ”

That was when Liam realized that he was in love with Natasha.

“That’s when I knew I really loved this person,” he said. “I said to myself, ‘It’s a real, genuine love, and it’s something that needs to be protected.’

Not long after, in the summer of 1994, the two married on a farm in upstate New York.

The 63-year-old lead actor in the film Taken recently appeared on John Benjamin Hickey’s “My Favorite Song” on SiriusXM, when he remembered an adorable moment from 1994, from his wedding to Richardson.

Neeson confessed that their wedding song was “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison.

They have two sons together: Michael, born in 1995, followed by Daniel, in 1996.

However, an unfortunate event would shatter this dream frame. On February 20, 2009, the actress was on a slope in the resort of Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada, where she was taking ski lessons for beginners. At one point he had an accident and hit his head hard.

An autopsy later revealed that Liam Neeson’s wife had died of a bruise. At the time of the accident, a blood clot formed on his brain. Despite initially feeling well, she died at the age of 45.

For five years after her tragic death, Liam rarely spoke of what this terrible loss meant to him, eventually opening his soul in one of the “60 Minutes” shows.

“I went in with her and told her I loved her…” It erases the pain.

“I was told he was brain dead. I saw the x-rays… “, the actor remembers.

Doctors told him that his wife was alive, but she was considered to be in a vegetative state and would never recover.

It’s hard to hear him describe their final moments together:

“I went to her and confessed once again that I loved her. I said, ‘My dear, you won’t get over this. You hit your head hard. It’s… I don’t know if you can hear me, but that’s what happened. We’ll take you back to New York. All the family and friends will come, “he said.

Even five years after the accident, the actor said with tears in his eyes that he was still waiting for her at home, to enter the door. “I did not fully accept her death. I have moments when I expect to see her enter the door, after so many years ”

Looking back on their marriage, Liam says that one of his favorite things about Natasha was her generosity and overwhelming maternal love.

“She took care of everyone,” he said. “She had a huge motherly instinct. He made dinner for everyone and took care of us all. ”

After the accident that left his wife in a coma, Neeson decided not to disconnect her immediately from the appliances, so that the family could say goodbye:

“I have made a pact. If one of us is in a vegetative state, we will unplug the appliances. I donated three organs to her, so three people are alive because of her. Her heart, her kidneys, and her liver. ”

Now, every year, on the wedding anniversary, Liam remembers the love the two shared. In 2016, Liam posted a message on social media, remembering his wife. He advised everyone to value their partners and make the most of every day they live together.

“We must stop and be grateful for the people around us. For life is short. Spend time with your spouses/lovers. Be nice to them. Because one day, when you look up from the phone, they won’t be there. What I have learned the most is: live and love every day as if it were your last. Because one day, it really will be. Tell your loved ones every day that you love them. Don’t take a good moment. Life is worth living, “he said.
