In the past 10 years, flash mobs have taken public and civic spaces by storm. The Concise Oxford English Dictionary describes a flash mob as an “unusual or pointless act”, often involving a large group of people assembling in a public space for a brief amount of time. Bill Wasik, a senior editor at Wired magazine, is recognized as the inventor of flash mobs, which he described as “playful social experiments meant to encourage spontaneity”.
